Here it comes – a NEW YEAR! So what does that mean to you?
Is it about resolutions? New goals? Or just a time to remember to write 2018 in place of 2017 on documents? (I would have said checks, but how often do we write checks these days?)
I think that resolutions tend to set many of us up for disappointment or the feeling of failure – or is that just me? I, like many others, get this grandiose rush of determination to “START OVER” or “MAKE BIG CHANGES” – only to not be able to follow through and then ultimately give up.
I don’t want to feel that kind of defeat again this year.
Wait. Maybe that’s the goal I should strive for – – – not feeling defeated.
- de·feat·ed
[dəˈfēdəd] - ADJECTIVE
having been beaten in a battle or other contest:
“the defeated army”
demoralized and overcome by adversity.
That word just feels “ick”. So let’s see what we can do to turn things around. Time to look up all the synonyms for “Defeated”.
- Defeated synonyms:
beat · conquer · win against · triumph over · get the better of · vanquish · rout · trounce · overcome · overpower · crush · subdue · lick · thrash · whip · wipe the floor with · make mincemeat of · clobber · slaughter · demolish · cream · skunk · nose out
Some of those made me laugh! Hey, as long as it puts a smile on someone’s face – it truly is the opposite of defeated!
So let’s pick our favorite synonyms and see how we can incorporate them into this NEW YEAR. Write your picks down in the comments below! How about we do this together? Who’s with me?
