Question: Can Women Over 40 Wear Long Hair???

Do you think that women over 40 can wear long hair? There are people who still believe that any woman over 40 shouldn’t have hair longer than their shoulders … and there are some people who don’t care about the rules! I’m curious what your opinion is about hair length and age.

I’m TRULY BLESSED WITH MY HAIR!!!!!!!! (Not to Brag) very thick and Wavy/Curly. I still have my Original Color of Hair. I’m 60+. Like Auburn with a Streak of Silver. My HairStylist is so JEALOUS LOL it is like it was done by her, but it waesn’t. Getting back to LONGER HAIR BEING OLDER IS ALL GOOD JACQUE, ❤️ It my hair right now is like SHOULDER LENGTH WITH LOTS OF LAYERS!!!!

My hair is long, but 4" shorter than your hair. I think it depends on individual features and condition of the hair. I'm over 40, but like you are, blessed with healthy and thick hair. I feel it makes me appear younger! However I think if hair is damaged, thinning, limp or stringy a good haircut is called for, regardless of age. Most importantly though, feel comfortable with what you like!

YES, women of all ages can wear their hair any way they choose! 🙂 People make these choices because of personal preferences, health of hair, lifestyle and/or time available to style it. Some may also be influenced by the longtime saying that women over 40 should not wear long hair. Let's release ourselves from this outdated suggestion and do what we want as individuals. Enjoy life as best as you can! Enjoy it with short hair, long hair, or anything in between! Jacque, thanks for asking ... and I enjoy your posts! All the best!

Of course they can! It depends on what looks good on you! I have seen 20 year olds that would have looked better in short hair!

The reason a lot of women wear shorter hair as we get older is simple. Our hair gets thinner. It gets finer. This is the result of hormones and age. The shorter the hair it looks like you have more hair. The longer the hair it tends to look a bit stringy and Witchypoo like.

I personally don't like long hair on any one. My sister was told by a doctor that no one over 25 should have long hair because it messes up your equalibreum. So many of hairdos today are just a hot mess & women are always messing with it to keep it out of their eyes or mouth.

I am 52 and my hair is quite long. I have decided to get it cut into a short bob style. I have fine hair but a lot of hair so that cut & style makes it look fuller. I have had that style in the past and I feel it brings out my features and brown eyes.

Hi Jacque! I go back & forth with my hair. Normally, I wear long layers w/swing bang to just below shoulder blades. Cut it in to a mid-neck bob last year. Now, trying to grow it out. My kids, & boyfriend like it long. No reason anyone, regardless of age can't wear long hair. It's what suits you, that counts. Anyone else, pfft!

What I want to know is who told you a woman over 40 shouldn't have long hair? That went out with do not wear white before Memorial Day or after Labor Day. Based on what I see today, anything goes to the point of being ridiculous. Still have a hard time with women shopping in the PJ's lol!

Hahahahaha true about the PJ’s! The last person who mentioned that women should not have hair past their shoulders after 40 years old was a male I worked with - who had long hair to his shoulders in his 60’s!

I’m 70 and I will not wear my hair long. Older faces look better with an uplifted look

I'm 59 and I have long hair to my butt . Its white because I gave up coloring my hair 2 years ago. And everywhere I go I have women as well as men tell me they love my hair....

I just turned 52 in June !! My hair is just past my shoulders!! I color my hair and keep it looking healthy so maybe I can get away with it being a little longer ! My husband loves it so to me that’s what matters!! Some people can get away with the long hair after a certain age but I’ve seen many that desperately need their hair cut !! I wanted to tell them about WEN & a good hairdresser but I also didn’t want to ever offend anyone either !! Whatever it is that we prefer I believe we should always be supportive of one another & encourage each other at all ages in life !

Yes, however I don’t think age has to do with it for men it’s about looking groomed. Depends on the person and good grooming habits same thing with a beard!

If you enjoy wearing your hair long, go ahead! It is your life to do with as you wish! I happen to love long hair, but it looks better on me short, so that’s how I wear it.
