I don’t want another “Defeated New Year” – How about you?

Here it comes – a NEW YEAR!  So what does that mean to you?

Is it about resolutions?  New goals?  Or just a time to remember to write 2018 in place of 2017 on documents?  (I would have said checks, but how often do we write checks these days?)

I think that resolutions tend to set many of us up for disappointment or the feeling of failure – or is that just me?  I, like many others, get this grandiose rush of determination to “START OVER” or “MAKE BIG CHANGES” – only to not be able to follow through and then ultimately give up.

I don’t want to feel that kind of defeat again this year.

Wait.  Maybe that’s the goal I should strive for – – – not feeling defeated.

  • de·feat·ed
    [dəˈfēdəd]
  • ADJECTIVE
having been beaten in a battle or other contest:
    “the defeated army”
    demoralized and overcome by adversity.

That word just feels “ick”.  So let’s see what we can do to turn things around.  Time to look up all the synonyms for “Defeated”.

  • Defeated synonyms:
beat · conquer · win against · triumph over · get the better of · vanquish · rout · trounce · overcome · overpower · crush · subdue · lick · thrash · whip · wipe the floor with · make mincemeat of · clobber · slaughter · demolish · cream · skunk · nose out

Some of those made me laugh!  Hey, as long as it puts a smile on someone’s face – it truly is the opposite of defeated!

So let’s pick our favorite synonyms and see how we can incorporate them into this NEW YEAR.  Write your picks down in the comments below!  How about we do this together?  Who’s with me?

Jacque 🙂

This New Years Eve will have to party without me this year! For 45 years of my life I have gone out with friends to party in the New Year. This year I am flat on my back in bed and have been for four days, with this horrendous flu/coldthat is going around! Please everyone take care of yourselves, as this sickness is brutal!
I hope you all have a great New Years Eve, and a wonderful year to follow.
I will bring in this New Year with a cough and a shout! LOL

Well, most of 2017 has been spent rebuilding/restoring my home of 24 years after it was flooded in 2016. Every room is completed except my front room. Having my home back will be a joy! We can never be defeated if we keep getting back up every time life knocks us down! Never give up or give in!

Hi Jacque, I don’t belong to Facebook so I write my comments here and hope you read them. I’m 65 yrs. young and stopped with the New Years Resolutions a long time ago. Once I figured out that I never keep them or it only last maybe 3 weeks into the new year I gave up. But that’s not the same at being defeated!! I have been through some difficult times in the last few years (health wise) and am blessed that I have come through feeling pretty darn good. It just makes us understand how strong we really are and what fight we have in us. So as long as we still have a soul and a mind and spirit, we can put up a really good fight and no, we will not be defeated. You just have to believe! Happy New Year Jacque, a very blessed and healthy one and keep your strength. Nina

Mine’s more of a collective answer…hoping that in 2018 southeast Texas isn’t “defeated” by a barrage of destructive weather.

I also love to look at the synonyms! This is an encouraging post. I have made some attainable goals for this year. I have my vision board going and have recorded (on the voice recorder on my phone) affirmations to listen to with my own voice each day. My goals are simple and attainable this year. Love you Jacque!

While I consider myself lucky and happy this is one of the worst years i could think of for me, in every aspect, so moving forward into 2018 i say POSITIVITY 100%!! Try not to be so negative, that will only bring negativity.
You’re the best Jacque, ive been a fan for years and years and this is just another great platform for you.

Oh Jacque Jacque Jacque ! 2017…………….a major roller coaster ride for me. peaks and valleys and mostly in the valley. one of the worst years of my adult life. the worst were the years that i lost my parents but subtract those from the mix and this was the worst. i should write a blog on it….. but i am going to have a long post on fb. i have shed more tears this year than i thought i could. and yes i had a lot of anger too. my goal is to rid myself of this pain and its control on me. i did have happy times and blessings….being with my four little loves and their families, supportive former co workers, finding new family via the dna testing and you are always one of my blessings. thank you for your support and for never giving up on me. God bless you dear one. love ya and remember you are always stuck with me.
